The company is involved in the development and manufacture of the emergency braking system
Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) has announced the final assembly of the prototype of its 5th generation fighter, KF-X. The KF-X, a program developed jointly by South Korea and Indonesia, is intended for the ROK Air Force, the Indonesian Air Force and exports. Its first flight is scheduled for 2022.
Héroux-Devtek Spain (HDS), is responsible for the development and manufacture of the Emergency Braking System Arrestor Hook (braking hook), in which it participates from the first stage of conceptual design giving support in the definition of safety requirements and reliability.
The Emergency Braking System, when hooking the brake bar cable, must stop the aircraft launched at 350km / h and brake in less than 365 meters of runway.
This system is made up of four teams:
- Shank: Structural bar with mooring to the plane and self-centering system.
- Shock Absorber: complex fluid-mechanical equipment with double function, actuator and shock absorber.
- Uplock: The release hook that allows, by electrical or manual command, the release of the free end of the shank.
- Selector Valve: valve that connects the system damper to the supply pressure line, when electrically activated. When the valve is deactivated, the system is connected to the return line of the aircraft’s hydraulic system.
HDS thus enhances its experience in this field, especially:
- Support to the definition of requirements in the integration of a first order system in an airplane.
- System-level simulation capacity and its integration into the aircraft for the determination of dynamic behavior and induced loads.
This system also allows HDS to continue expanding its contracts and strengthen its relationship with its international clients. It strengthens the company’s ability to develop complex systems, acquiring recognition of capabilities at the level of integration in aircraft and completing the experience already acquired in other ATA systems in the EUROFIGHTER, ATLANTE (UAV), HÜRKUS (turboprop trainer) and T-625 (civil-military dual use helicopter) programs among others.
HDS has currently started the delivery of the first equipment that goes in the first flight test aircraft, as well as the customer tests, and is in the process of completing the qualification units that will be used to cover the defined qualification program.
