The results are very promising, revealing the projection, approach and transfer capacity of solutions based on Artificial Intelligence to society, with the aim of helping SMEs to implement solutions based on AI in their processes

CATEC is one of the five leading technology centers in Spain that make up the CEL.IA National Network (CEL.IA – Cervera Consortium for R&D Leadership in Applied Artificial Intelligence). This group of entities has been created to promote the transfer and development of Artificial Intelligence in various applications.

The project sets its first objective in reaching the maximum impact of Artificial Intelligence in the Spanish economy and society, helping to overcome the existing barriers and gaps between end users (Company and Society). To this end, a Toolkit of technological solutions for virtual and augmented reality, artificial vision and natural language processing is being developed for the application of Artificial Intelligence as an important tool that will support the five thematic application demonstrators that each one of the technological centers that make up the consortium are developing and that, in the case of CATEC, focuses on the transport sector.

CATEC’s developments focus on a Transport Demonstrator aimed at creating an automatic 2D/3D reconstruction of objects and infrastructures and a demanding optimization of image acquisition mechanisms, as well as their processing. This 2D/3D Scene Understanding technique allows analyzing a scene considering the geometric and semantic context of its content and the intrinsic relationships between them.

Thanks to this progress in image processing knowledge related to 3D automatic reconstruction, problems will be solved and applications oriented towards the inspection of large infrastructures dedicated to transport will be developed. In addition, thanks to the synchronization with robotic systems, they will also facilitate telepresence tasks, keeping remote operations connected, through Virtual Reality, directly with the industry.

The results are very promising, revealing the projection, approach and transfer capacity of solutions based on Artificial Intelligence to society, with the aim of helping SMEs to implement solutions based on AI in their processes.

In addition to CATEC, the other technological centers that make up the CEL.IA Network are the Information and Communication Technology Center (CTIC), the Technological Institute of Galicia (ITG), the Technological Institute of Informatics (ITI) and the Technological Institute of Castilla y León (ITCL).
