The United States, a world leader in the sector, presents opportunities in applications with the use of artificial intelligence and big data for an industry that is strategic for Andalusia, the second largest exporter in Spain

Extenda has organized the grouped participation of the aeronautical industry of Andalusia in the fifth edition of the Aerospace & Defense Supplier Summit 2021 fair, the most important aerospace and defense supplier summit in the United States, which has been held in digital format during the days March 15th and 17th. Thus, this sector, which is strategic in our community, has exhibited its offer of quality and competitiveness among leading importers from the North American country, which is currently positioned as a world leader and a reference in aeronautics and space.

This business forum has allowed community firms, through b2b meetings promoted from the platform, to establish new contacts with North American companies in the sector, as well as many others that have been able to consolidate the relationships established in the past and that are beneficial for the continuation of your business exchanges. Interesting market opportunities for Andalusia have been presented at the event, related to the development of software and technological solutions for the sector, contemplating the use of artificial intelligence and big data.

In the context of this event, Extenda, as a public company of the Junta de Andalucía, has held parallel meetings with ‘Tier 1’ supplier companies of the US aeronautical sector, such as Boeing, Airbus America and other manufacturers of equipment, to publicize the Andalusian aeronautical cluster and its characteristics, with the aim of attracting investments from this industry to Andalusia from the United States, a country that imported 136 million euros from the aeronautical industry of our community in 2020 .

USA aerospace artificial intelligence

The CEO of Extenda, Arturo Bernal, has considered the United States as “a country of opportunities for the Andalusian aerospace industry, which despite the complicated year that 2020 has meant for the sector, due to the stop of the airlines, has already started to see opportunities, thanks to the reactivation of more and more domestic air traffic, followed by a future, more long-term acceleration of international traffic”.

In Bernal’s words, this forum has transmitted “positive news for this industry, which in recent years was focused on the renewal of the aircraft fleet for a new generation of more sustainable ships and on the orders placed by the increase in gas- the US military, for which a new increase in demand is expected, which will depend on the improvement of the impact of the Covid-19 crisis”.

In turn, Bernal has highlighted the “market niche detected in the development of software applications for drones, which has more and more users and could extend from the military to the commercial field, which would require an increase of research, development and innovation for its correct application, as well as artificial intelligence solutions, a challenge in which the Andalusia brand has great references”.

US, a market of 250,000 million

Currently, the United States is positioned as the world leader in the aeronautical and aerospace sector, with a turnover of more than 250,000 million dollars in 2019, the year before the pandemic. So much so that it has one of the two world champions in commercial aviation, Boeing, and the largest buyer of defense products, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). In this sense, the US aeronautical industry is highly internationalized, since it exports more than half of its production, with a complex and globalized value chain.

According to ICEX data, from 2014 to 2018, the reduction in US military spending and the slowdown in the civil subsector have weighed down on US demand in foreign markets. However, in the long term an expansionary cycle is expected, interrupted this time by the coronavirus crisis. After this paralysis of the aeronautical activity, the demand is expected to gain strength and reach an annual rate of 3%, driven by the request of large civil aircraft, the growing global air traffic, the substitution of airplanes by a new generation of more efficient ships, in line with environmental sustainability strategies, and the increase in US military spending.

Aerospace & Defense Supplier Summit 2021

Aerospace & Defense Supplier Summit Seattle is the most important aerospace and defense supplier summit in the US, with 800 participating companies, more than 10,000 meetings.
