Andalusia’s aeronautical exports reach record figures in the first five months of 2024, with 1,299 million euros and an 85% growth
Andalucía TRADE promotes the internationalisation of the Andalusian aerospace industry in its main markets and accentuates the diversification of its sales destinations through a key business event, the Farnborough International Airshow 2024 (FIA), which was held from 22 to 26 July in the United Kingdom. This is a key event for a strategic sector for the community, which in the first five months of the year has reached record export figures of 1,299 million euros, 85% more than in the same period of the previous year.
Andalucía TRADE has organized the grouped participation of six Andalusian companies and entities in FIA 2024, one of the most innovative commercial meetings of the aerospace industry in Europe, which brings together both the main international manufacturers and highly specialized SMEs in the sector. In addition, it is one of the essential events of the aeronautical industry in Europe, the main market for Andalusian aerospace, and also shows business opportunities in the Middle East and Asia.
The public agency has organized several networking activities in its exhibition space and received visits from several military delegations from the air and land forces and the new parliamentary undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport of the United Kingdom government, Mike Kane. The presentation of the results of the Andalucía Aerospace cluster was also held at the stand; and the visit of the Regional Minister of Industrial Policy and Energy, Jorge Paradela, who also visited prominent companies such as BAE System and Lilium.
According to data from Andalucía TRADE, the Andalusian aerospace business continues to consolidate in Europe, the destination of 77% of Andalusian exports, and to this end, the public agency is present at the main European events such as Farnborough, which has more than 80,000 visitors from more than 90 countries, a figure that demonstrates its potential as a business forum. With an exhibition space of over 100,000 square metres, it hosts more than 1,500 exhibitors from many countries around the world
Andalusian participation
The Andalusian delegation present at FIA was made up of six firms and entities from Seville (Aerotecnic Metallic, Arrtificial Aerospace & Defense Engineering, Sofitec, Umi Aeronautica, Andalucía Aerospace and Sevilla Control) that represented the quality and innovation of the Andalusian aeronautics sector at the event under the umbrella of Andalucía TRADE. Andalucía Aerospace is the cluster of the community responsible for promoting the interests and encouraging the growth of the aerospace sector in Andalusia at a national and international level, and participates in this action through the agreement with Andalucía TRADE.
The organisation of this action by Andalucía TRADE will be co-financed with funds from the EU through the P.O. Andalusian FEDER 2021-2027, endowed with a community contribution of 80%, or any other European Programme likely to co-finance this action.
Business in the United Kingdom
According to data from Andalucía TRADE, the British aeronautical industry is the second largest in the world, only behind the American one, with an innovative business ecosystem made up of more than 3,000 firms and a volume of direct and indirect employment that currently exceeds 280,000 people.
Furthermore, it is one of the British industries most closely linked to international trade, a dynamic that is driven by the rapid growth that the sector is experiencing and because the British government aims for the British aeronautical sector to represent 10% of the world total by 2030.
Record exports
In the first five months of 2022, Andalusia reached a historic record figure of exports for the period, with 1,299 million euros in sales, 32% of the national total, thanks to an increase of 85% compared to the same period of the previous year. This is an industry that provides great diversification to Andalusian sales, reaching four continents with its top ten markets.
Specifically, according to the data compiled by Andalucía TRADE, the first market for Andalusian aeronautics in this period has been Germany, with 497 million euros (38%) and an increase of 1,214%; followed by France, with 318 million (24.4%) and an increase of 0.2%; Belgium, with 135 million (10.4%)and an increase of 6,749%; and Brunei Darussalam, with 76 million (5.8%) and an increase of 130,933%.
In fifth place is India, with 70 million (5.4%) and an increase of 1,516%; followed by the United States, with 60 million (4.6%) and an improvement of 27.5%; Canada, with 39 million (3%) and an increase of 6.9%; and Morocco, with 21.6 million and an increase of 21,741%. In ninth place is the United Kingdom, with 20.7 million and a decrease of 85%; and the Republic of Korea closes the Top 10, with 6.6 million and an increase of 372%.
By province, the province of Seville leads sales, with 1,278 million euros, practically the entire export invoice (98%) and an increase of 84%; followed by Cadiz, with 9 million and a rise of 110%, more than doubling its sales; Malaga, with 6.3 million (+179%); and Cordoba, with 4.5 million (+169%). The rest of the provinces have minimal exports.
On the other hand, sales have been mainly of aircraft, space vehicles, and their parts, which have accounted for 96% of exports, with 1,246 million euros and an increase of 84% with respect to the data from the same period of the previous year, placing Andalusia as the national leader in this area.
