CT, a leading engineering company in technological innovation throughout the product life cycle, has been selected by Iberdrola to carry out Support Engineering for the design of the largest green hydrogen complex for industrial use in Europe, which the multinational has commissioned at the Puertollano plant (Ciudad Real).

The energy project will have a 100 MW photovoltaic solar plant, a lithium-ion battery system with a storage capacity of 20 MWh and one of the largest hydrogen production systems through electrolysis in the world (20 MW), all at from 100% renewable sources. The green hydrogen produced there will be used in the Fertiberia ammonia factory in the town, which is already one of the most efficient factories in the European Union.

CT, which already has an office in Puertollano, where it has offered multiple packages of engineering services in industrial plants for almost a decade, will provide a multidisciplinary team, centralized in the CT office in the town and will have the support of the rest of Industrial Plant Areas of the company, located in other locations in Spain.

“Contributing to the design work of the largest green hydrogen production plant in Europe is an honor as well as a huge challenge. Our engineers will put their capabilities and extensive experience in Civil Works and Structure, Electricity, Instrumentation and Mechanics at its service. As an operating company in numerous sectors, from aeronautics, automotive, to rail, naval or energy, we are aware of the importance of decarbonization of those most carbon-intensive industries in the world, including power generation, chemical products, the manufacture of steel and heavy transport”, explains Cristina Maroto, Head of the CT office in Puertollano.

CT actively participates in energy projects that exploit the potential of renewable energies, including the Wikinger and East Anglia 1 wind farms, or the Támega, Aldeadávila, El Cortijo, Urrunaga, San Pedro II or Ricobayo hydroelectric complexes, all initiatives promoted by Iberdrola, among others.
